The origin is unclear. Cf. (?) German Scharmann ¹, Scherrmann ². ♦ On the other hand, it is considered a two-stem pers.n.: Šar-mantas ³. In this case, due to the shar- cf. Šãras (see), for mant- see Mañgin.
