This surn. šem- most likely from šem-, then see The family. But cf. Brus Шэмель, Шэмелеў ¹, German. Schemmel ², Schem(m)el ³.♦ It cannot be ruled out that Tauragnai surn. may have originated from Šamẽlis located in the Utena region (see).
