The origin is unclear. Cf. lit. Star (see) and star „toks paukštis; čiurlys“ (LKŽK). See Z. Zinkevičius, 1977, p. 113. In addition, the German Star, Staar(e), Stahr ¹.♦ Also cf. lit. sharp „sunkiai vilkti, tempti, vežti, nešti, boginti“ (LKŽe).
