Adalis
ÃDALIS
Etymology
Two different personal names may have coincided in this surname: Slavic Aдoлий (: Gr. ἄδoλoς „teisingas“) and Germanic Ãdolf (adal=edel „kilnus“ + Wolf „vilkas“) Lithuanian remake Ãdalis. However, the latter pers.n. in the Lithuanian language is, it seems, not very old, so surn. Ãdalis may still be connected with the Slavic personal name, although cf. Brus Aдoлюсь: Aдoльф ¹.
