Albutavičius

Cf. 17th century Albutowiczowa ¹, lit. Ólbutas (see), which is apparently a later reworking of *Al-butas. For al- cf. lit. Al-mi̇̀nas, Ál̃-mintas (see), OPr. Al-gard, Al-gaude, Al-wide ². The origin of the first sandal al- is unclear. Attempts were made to associate him with Lieut. alė́ti „būti vandens plaunamam“ ³, but this association raises doubts primarily due to semantics. Perhaps a more plausible juxtaposition with got. alls „visas“, lit. aliái vi̇́enas, aliái „kiekvienas“ (LKŽ I 98) - ⁴. Z.
