Etymology
Cf. Latin Auze k. ¹, lit. grow, grow, grow „augimas“ (LKŽ I 460). But the Baltic of this and some other surn. with aug- ² etc.) the origin also raises doubts, because some surn. with aug- can be short or reworked from the baptismal name Augùstas or even Eugènijus. Cf. Russian Eвга: Eвгений ³ and so on.
