Theoretically, it could be a Baltic compound surn., cf. Aš-vỹdis ¹, Ú-mantas (see). For me - see Mañgin. But cf. German Aschmann, Eschmann ². Limm. the name of the village Ašmaņi is assumed to be derived from the German surn. Aschmann ³.
