Balbata

BALBATÀ

Etymology

Cf. Brus Бoлбат, Балбатoвiч, Балбатoўскi, Бoлбач: бoлбат, бoлбач „plepys, pliurpalius“ ¹. Cf. still brus балбатаннеplepėjimas, tauškimas“, балбатацьplepėti, taukšti“, балбатлiвы „plepus“, балбатняtauškalynė“, балбатун „plepys, tauškalius“ (БPC 116). We also have words of similar formation and similar meanings in lit. in language: balbatà „plepys“, balbãčas, balbãtas „idem“, balbatū̃nas „idem“, balbatúoti „plepėti; unclearai kalbėti“ etc. These lit. onomatopoeic words of the language are not considered loanwords ². Therefore, it is now difficult to say whether surn. Balbatà is a nickname of lit. I wonder if it's all borrowed from BRuss. languages.
