Etymology
Cf. polish Balbierz ¹, German. Balbier: Barbier ², which in turn from the French Barbier: barbier „barzdaskutys, kirpėjas“: French. la barbe „barzda“ ³. However, Lieut. surn. Balbiẽrius is probably derived directly from the loanword balbiẽrius „barzdaskutys, kirpėjas“ (LKŽ I 588).
