Balsys

Surnames with bals- ¹ are apparently of dual origin. Most of them can be associated with vowels „baltas gyvulys“, vowels „baltas šuo, kiškis“: *balsas „baltas“, cf. vowel „balzganas, apybaltis“. Others can be derived from the vowel „garsus, skambus“, cf. voice (LKŽ I 601-605).
