Cf. polish Bos, Bose, Bosy, Bosek, Bosik: Polish. bosy „basas“ or sometimes an abbreviation of a longer pers.n., e.g. Bolesław ¹. In addition, there may be a nickname origin (derivative of the ending -ys) simply from Slavic băsas. See also Boss.
