For bir- cf. Ave. Wisse-bir ¹, the origin of the root bir- is uncertain. The second spot -iot here is probably not a suffix, but an independent stem ², cf. lit. surn. Dáu-jotas, Daũ-jotas, Dáu-jatas, Daũ-jotas, Dau-jõtis, Gi̇̀r-i-jotas, Gir-i-jõtas, Gir-iotas, Gir-iõtas, Gi̇̀r-jotas, Kãr-i-jotas, Sir-jat-ãvičius (see); lit. pers.n. Kir-iot, Mi̇̀n-iot, Si̇̀r-iot, Ski̇̀r-iot, Skùr-iot, Tar-iot, Tau-iot, Tól-iot, Vi̇̀l-iot ³. Perhaps sand jot- has the personal name Jót-vilas ⁴. The origin of sand jot- is not entirely clear. Cf. K.
