Brožys
BROŽYS
Etymology
Cf. Brožaitis, Broželis, Brožons ¹, lit. _Brožiai_̇̃ k. Klaipėda district, Latv. Brāži village, Brāži village ². The origin is unclear, because, above all, the vowel and its authenticity are doubtful - it can also be from: Bruožỹs (see). But, on the other hand, the root brož- is also quite possible - it can be an abbreviation of the baptismal name Ambrõžas < Pol. Ambrōży ³, cf. German Brosius, Bröse: Ambrosius ⁴. See also Brazil.
