Brynas
BRÝNAS
Etymology
The connection with the Žemaitian word brýnas „be turto, be darbo, plikas“ (LKŽ I 1050) is doubtful due to geography: the general word brýnas is known only from Darbėnai and from the writings of S. Daukant, while the surname Brýnas occurs only in Užnemunė. In addition, the origin of the word brýnas itself is unclear. Cf. still German Brühne, Brünn or similar. ¹, Brinno ².
