Etymology
Cf. Latin Bujans ¹. Limm. vv. Bujāni village, Bujan village, Bujēņi village. associated with Latv. bujāni „die Ambarren, Warenlager and Riga“ ². However, these Latv. vv. may rather be derived from surn. Bujāns ³, and the origin of the latter is not entirely clear, it may also be Slavism, cf. polish Bujoń ⁴, bRuss., Russ. Буян: BRuss. буян „riaušininkas, triukšmadarys“ and so on. ⁵.
