Burdulis
BURDÙLIS
Etymology
In one other case, perhaps the suffix -ulis is a derivative of burdýti „bugdyti, sunkiai ką nešti, vilkti, gabenti; varyti, grūstis“ ¹, bùrdyti „draikyti“ ². However, derivatives of this suffix from verbs are very rare in the Lithuanian language ³. So it is hard to believe that all surn. Burdùlis could have been composed in this way. Mostly, apparently, these are derivatives of the patronymic suffix -ulis from Bùrda (see) or similar. However, geography somewhat contradicts this assumption: almost all surn. Burdùlis is located in Suvalki, while Bùrda is unknown in these areas.
