Etymology
Cf. Latin Burva (LAG 141), Burvis ¹, Bur̂vji k., Bur̂vi k. The latter names of the villages are associated with Latv. bùrvis „burtininkas, raganius“ ². Pr. vv. Burwite is also compared with the aforementioned Limm. appellative ³. Apparently, and lit. surn. Burvỹs is inseparable from Latv. bucket
