Būda
BŪDÀ
Etymology
Cf. Latin Way ¹. Our surn. Būdà, especially Budà (due to the short u), can generally be all borrowed, cf. polish Buda ², bRuss. Буда ³. Polish Buddha can be of different origin, but most often they are apparently abbreviations from sl. pers.n. Budzisław: Bud, Buda, Budza, Budek ⁴. In one other case, Lieut. Mode may be of nickname origin from mode, although this does not seem entirely possible, primarily due to semantics.
