Etymology
The origin is unclear. Perhaps, although it is very doubtful, the suffix -r- is a derivative of dýgti, cf. spikes „dygus, aštrus“ (LKŽ II 526). This connection is not clear, primarily due to dig-: dyg-. Therefore, it can be assumed that Digrỹs has evolved from *Didrys < *Didrich or the like, cf. German Diedrich, Dittrich, Dedrich: Theudorieus ¹.
