The origin is unclear. Cf. lit. di̇̀čius (*di̇̀d-šius?) „toks guzas“ (LKŽ II 473). Other connections, let's say, with Limm. Di̇̃čas village, Di̇̃či village ¹, which can be associated with German. pers.n. Dietsch or similar. ², are less reliable.
