Cf. Ai̇̃zin (see). The origin is unclear. Cf. Latin Eiziņš (LAG 403). Connection with lit. éižeti „eiženoti, skeldėti, trūkinėti“ (LKŽ II 1107), ei̇̃žti „aižyti, iežti, gliaudyti, lukštenti; raižyti; skaldyti, trupinti..“ ¹ or similar. would be quite possible, but it is not certain whether this surname is Baltic at all. The geography of the Latvian surname Eiziņš (LAG 403), especially Eižens ², the Lithuanian surname Ei̇̃žinas ‖ Ai̇̃žinas (northern Lithuania) suggests that these Lithuanian surnames are related to Latin.
