Perhaps the Gẽ-nation also belongs here (see) < *Ged-nation. Cf. also Giẽd-gaudas, Giẽd-manas, Giẽd-minas (see), Ged-gáila, Gẽd-gantas, Gẽd-vydas, Gẽd-vinas ¹, Ged-i-gaudas ², Gẽd-i-minas ³; Latin Ged-vila (LAG 275); Ave. Ged-e-buth, Ged-e-gawde, Ged-e-kant, Ged-ympthe ⁴. The root ged- is connected ⁷ with lit. gedė́ti „gailėti; liūdėti“ (LKŽ III 195), gedáuti „klausti, ieškoti, teirautis, pasigedus kokio daikto; ilgėtis; norėti, geidauti“ ⁸, pasi-gèsti, etc. Current Lithuanian surnames with the stem gaud- in the first sentence seem to be unknown. There are a few white personal names with gaud- in the first case, cf. lit. Gaũd-rim ⁹, OPr. Gawde-ways, Gawde-wis, Gaude-wil ¹⁰.
