Etymology
Cf. Gin-tilà, Gin-silence (see). It is not entirely clear whether the compound (Gi̇̀n-tilas) or the suffix (Gi̇̀nt-ilas) surn. K. Būga ¹, P. Skardžius ² consider the suffixes -il- as derivatives, and A. Salys ³ as compound surnames, the second syllable of which is til-, see Tillmont.
