Cf. Latin Grubis (LAG 338), Grubis ¹. Perhaps connected with lit. grubùs „sugrubęs, sustingęs; stambus, rupus; nemandagus, storžievis, šiurkštus..“ (LKŽ III 652), cf. grùbis „grubiai kalbantis žmogus“ ². BRuss. etc. the Slavic nomenclature includes surnames derived from the corresponding Slavic word, cf. Brus Гpубiн, Гpубенка: BRuss. гpубы „grubus“ ³.
