Etymology
Most likely a composite surn. For gud-, gud- cf. lit. Gū̃d-montas (see), Gud-i-gáila, Gùd-i-gardas, Gùd-minas, Gùd-vainas, Gùd-vilas, Gùd-vinas ¹. The root is gud- in the second conjugation pers.n. sande has, it seems, only Gel̃-gudas (see). It is associated with Lieut. gùsti (guñda, gùdo) „prasti, junkti; pasidaryti gudriam; išgudrėti“ (LKŽ III 763).
