Jašas

Cf. lit. Jošỹs (see). Chandelier with polish. Jasz, Jasza, Czech. Jaš, Jaša, bRuss., Russ. Яша. Slavic Jaš- is an abbreviation of another, longer name, but it is not entirely clear from which one. M. Gottschald believes that sl. Jaš, Ješ is from Johannes ¹. Other researchers have different opinions. Let's say, S. Rospondas considers it possible that the bend. Jasz, Jasza can have various origins - from Jarosław, Jarogniew, Jan, Jakub ². Compilers of „Słownik staropolskich nazw osobowych“ tend to bend. Jazs, Jaszo, Jesz, Jeszo, etc. relate to Jan (SSNO II 457). It is possible that the Slavic Jaš- may actually have various origins. However, apparently, mostly in sl. Jaš- will be short for Jakub-, cf. check Ješek: Jach: Jakub ³, Russian. Jašin: Jaša: Jakov ⁴, Яша: Якoв ⁵, bulg. Яшo: Якoв ⁶, bRuss. Яша: Иакoв ⁷.
