Etymology
The origin is not entirely clear in the sense that the surname Jãkas can be genetically related to both the baptismal name Jacobus (lit. Jokū̃bas) and Joachim (lit. Jakìmas or similar). As can be seen from the literature, in Slavic languages Jak- is more often associated with Jacob ¹.
