KABÕŠIUS
Etymology
Cf. lit. Hanger (see). Perhaps a nickname, related to lit. hanging „susivėlėlis, žioplys“ (LKŽ V 26). But the word kabõšius is not known from living language, but from writings. Therefore, our surnames with kabaš-, kaboš- can be borrowed, cf. polish Kobosz (SSNO III 35), Kabasznik ¹, Rus. Кабаш, Кабашев, Кабашин (CAМC II 704). See also Kabašinsk, Kòboš.
