Kančius
KAÑČIUS
Etymology
Cf. Kañčas, Kančỹs; Kónča, Končas, Koñčis, Končỹs, Koñčius; Kunčỹs, Kuñčius (see). The origin is unclear. First of all, what complicates the decision is the quite possible connection with the surnames of the root kаnc-, konc-, kunc- ¹. Such a connection, if possible, would also be indicated by the German Kuntschen next to Kunz ², etc. (see Kánce). Connection with lit. kančià „kentėjimas, skausmas“ (LKŽ V 200) is not certain, especially because of the much more popular variants with konč-, kunč-.
