Etymology
The suffix -aitis is derived from *Keidas, *Keidỹs or the like, cf. lit. Keidai̇̃ k. Akmene district, _Keidžiai_̇ village. Raseiniai district The root keid- is also found in the surnames Keidõnas, Keidū̃nas and, in a sense, Keidõšius (see). Sietina with Lieut. change „prastai eiti; prastai akėti, keverzoti“ (LKŽ V 484).
