Kirša

Cf. Ki̇̀ršis, Ki̇̀ršis (see). Limm. Ķiršs ¹, as evidenced by the preserved consonant kʼ before the vowel i, is apparently a relatively new surname, perhaps a Germanism ². So it is possible that some of the Lithuanian surnames from this root are borrowed. However, it seems that some Lithuanian surnames with kirš- may be Baltic. But their origin is also questionable. It is possible that some of them may have a root cross- „juodas“, cf. Ave. kirsnan „juodas“, lit. Kiršinas river B.Sc. etc. On the other hand, it cannot be overlooked and lit. kir̃šti „pykti“ (LKŽ V 869) and so on.
