Kiselis
KÌSELIS
Etymology
Cf. Kisėlis, Khëselis, Kiselius, Kisė̃lius (see). Unmissable and Latv. Ķīsel ¹, Ķīsels ². Often, especially surnames with a short vowel i in the root (kisel-), are apparently related to Kisiẽlius (see). For kisel-: kisiel - cf. Latin ķi̇̃sel „kisielius“ (LVV II 389). But there may be other origins. Especially due to Latvian parallels, borrowing from German is possible. Kiessel ³ or similar.
