Etymology
Cf. lit. Kleinỹs (see), Latv. Kleins ¹. Apparently, these surnames are not all of the same origin. Some of them can be borrowed from German. Klein ², the other one seems to be a foundation to connect with lit. kléinas „lieknas, plonas, tęvas“ (LKŽ VI 33), kli̇́enes „idem“ (LKŽ VI 83), Latv. klei̇̃ns „kreivas“, which is of the same origin as lit. kléin, kli̇́en (LVV II 220).
