Kulys

Cf. Kùlis (see). The relationship with the surname Kūlỹs is not entirely clear (see) - sometimes the vowel u of the surname Kulỹs can be later, shortened from the long ū, especially in surnames from Šaukėnai and Užvenci. The origin of the Eastern Lithuanian surname Kulỹs also raises various doubts. Cf. lit. kulỹs „šlubis“, kulỹs „maišas, kapšys; scrotum; kelnių viršutinė dalis be kiškų; javų lapo ar varpos makštis (prie narelio)“, kulỹs „kampas, ragas, kraštas“ (LKŽ VI 835-836).
