Cf. Lãten (see). There may be a dialect of *Letena(s). Then it would be reasonable to consider these surnames as nicknames and associate them with lit. ἀἱtena „gyvulio ar žmogaus kojos pėda su pirštais; rankos galas, plaštaka“ (LKŽ VII 383).
