The origin is unclear. Theoretically, it can be considered a compound surname: Lei̇̃-manas. Cf. still Lei̇̃-mon (see). For lei̇̃- see Lei̇̃mantas, because of me- - Úmantas. However, other connections are also possible, primarily German. Laymann ¹, Leiman ², etc.
