Compound surname. The second word is from the baptismal name Peter. The origin of the first sand hatch is unclear. Perhaps it is a later reworking of lik- (see Li̇̀kpetris). True, its appellative origin is also not impossible, cf. lit. to remain „žemyn linkti, lėpti“ (LKŽ VII 605).
