Could be a Latvian surname, cf. Latin Lūkplēšs (LAG 287). However, the key to its origin is apparently in the Lithuanian language, cf. lit. robbery „raudonžiedis žalčialunkis“ (LKŽ VII 688). It would be a surname of plant origin.
