Cf. Liẽbas, Liẽbus (see) - the last two surnames are dialectal - from *Lėbas, Lė̃bus. Perhaps of nickname origin, connected with lit. lḗba „lėbavimas, ūžavimas“, lēba, leba „mulkis, žioplys; lėtas žmogus, léiba“ ¹. Although cf. German Lebus ².
