Cf. Mẽlis (see). Sometimes there may be later reworkings from genders with mēl- (cf. lit. mė̃lis „mėlynumas“ - LKŽ VII 1035). However, it is most likely associated with Miẽlis, Mielỹs (see). In addition, cf. Latin Mellis ¹ and Latv. lie „melagis“ (LVV II 595).
