Cf. Miklis (see). Theoretically, it is possible to consider these surnames as nicknames and associate them with lit. clever „vikrus, mitrus, greitas, gyvas“ (LKŽ VIII 179). However, most of the time, they will probably be derived from the baptismal name Mikalõjus, cf. polish Miklas: Mikołaj ¹, German. < column Miklas: Nicolaus ².
