Etymology
This is one of the cases when it is not clear whether the surname is a compound (Nei̇̃-manas - see below Nei̇̃mantas) or whether it is borrowed from Germanic languages. Cf. still Nei̇̃mon (see). Similar pvds are especially common. in Latvian: Neimanis ¹, Neimans ². This circumstance allows us to guess that most of our (and Latvian) surnames with neiman- are borrowed, cf. German Neimann, Naimann, Neumann ³.
