It is not entirely clear whether the nickname from lit. thumb „pirmasis rankos ar kojos pirštas“ (LKŽ VIII 797), or later changed from *Nikštys or similar. - see because of her Ni̇̀kštas; cf. Mikštỹs, Mi̇̀kštas (see): Mikalõjus, Nikalõjus.
