Etymology
Cf. Pãkštis, Pakštỹs (see). The origin is not entirely clear. Perhaps these are nicknames surn., connected with lit. poke „lengvai suduoti, sušerti“, poke „kaukšėti, taukšėti, papsėti“ ¹. However, the origin is also possible from some other personal name, cf. German Pach: Paulus ², Päch: Petrus ³, Pache: Bartholomaeus ⁴ or the like. For such a shortening, cf. lit. Jãkštas: Jokū̃bas ⁵.
