Cf. Pãlietas, Paliečius (see). These surn. the origin is not clear. Perhaps these are nicknames indicating a person's place of residence, i.e. i.e. near the piles, living near the piles, cf. lit. wild „toli nuo miško gyvenąs, laukų gyventojas“, cultivated „sodžiaus gyventojas“ ¹.
