Etymology
Cf. Papỹs (see), further cf. Latin Pape, Pāpe ¹, German. Paape, Pape < nd. pape, ndrh. paffe „šventikas“ ². In one other case, perhaps a nickname from lit. pãpas „krūtis; spenys; čiulptukas, žindukas; dusulys“ (LKŽ IX 350). See still ³.
