Etymology
Cf. lit. surn. Paužas, Paužė and possibly Páuza, Páuša (see), Latv. Pauža ¹. These surn. the origin is not entirely clear. It may be of Germanic origin, cf. German Pause, Paus, Pausch, Pausche ². But cf. still bend Pawsza ³, Powsch (SSNO IV 334), Pauszec, Pawszec, Pauszyc(s)ki ⁴.
