Pleska
PLESKÀ
Etymology
Cf. Plẽskis, Pleskỹs, Plėskỹs, Plẽskus (see). The origin of surnames with plesk- is not clear. Perhaps it is a nickname surn., cf. lit. pleskóti „ploti, pliaukšėti, plaskuoti“ (LKŽ X 160), lit. slavism pleskóti „ploninti; braidžioti po purvą“ (ibid.) or similar. But cf. still bend Pleski (SSNO IV 286), Pleskowski ¹ and Lieut. surn. with flip- - see Pleška.
