Cf. Pray (see). The origin is not entirely clear. Perhaps it is surn. of nickname origin, connected with lit. poor ¹ „neturintis gerų savybių, menkas, blogas; sunkus, vargingas; neprivilegijuotas, nekilmingas, kilęs from liaudies and others“ (LKŽ X 549-551).
