Etymology
Cf. lit. Rãdis (see). There may be a short gender from some compound personal name with rad-: Radvi̇̀las, Radi̇̀monas (see) or the like. ¹. Some other Lithuanian surnames with rad- (rod-) ² can be glorified from the corresponding Lithuanian forms. However, very often surnames with rad- (rod-), especially those with Slavic suffixes, are Slavisms that arose from the baptismal name Radiõnas or from Slavic compound personal names with the first syllable rad-: Radomił, Radomir, Radosław (SSNO IV 421) or the like.
